    Foods That Boost Metabolism

Finding foods that boost metabolism is relatively easy with the preponderance of scientific studies that over the years have researched the affects of food on a person’s metabolism. Even with the science that proves the relationship between food and metabolism there are still many people who do not believe that diet when combined with an exercise program can boost metabolism. Some of the problem lies with the exercise market itself. Many of the programs tout how well they work but do nothing when it comes to mentioning diet as part of an overall healthy body.

One theory that has come about in recent years is the idea of foods that boost metabolism and also are referred to as negative calorie foods. These foods, once ingested, actually require more calories to digest than are taken in by the food itself. So for example, a food item that has 90 calories in it but it takes 110 calories to digest it, then just by eating that food item the body will burn an extra 20 calories. While this may sound unbelievable, it is believed that many healthy natural and lean foods help to boost metabolism in this manner.

Fruits and vegetables are the known foods that help boost metabolism. The fruit that is known best for boosting metabolism is the grapefruit. There is a whole diet built around eating grapefruit that is popular some years and then fades away for awhile. It’s probably not a good idea to eat only grapefruit because the body relies on many different foods to replenish the nutrients it needs. The theory behind the negative calorie diet is that most of the foods that are considered to do this are high in fiber. Fiber is more difficult to break down during digestion and the body needs to burn extra calories to metabolize the food.

Whether or not these foods that boost metabolism really help the body burn more calories then they contain is open to debate. But the fact is these foods are all very healthy and will help anyone trying to boost their metabolism and loose weight.
