Can You Increase Metabolism

There are a lot of products out there that claim to increase your metabolism. While their claims may be based on some truths the reality is that these products tend to stretch that truth for the purpose of marketing and sales. It is true that some products, such as caffeine and green tea based drinks, will increase your metabolism, that increase is relatively insignificant and will do little to promote any sort of weight loss. The key to increasing your metabolism and metabolic function is getting enough exercise. With all the hype about metabolism boosting supplements it still takes old fashioned exercise to get the results you want.

The best way to burn a whole lot of calories is to engage in aerobic and cardio vascular exercise. Doing cardio exercises call upon the body to use greater amounts of oxygen and a greater use of energy than just sitting and watching TV. But we all know that, don’t we? When it comes to burning calories and increasing metabolism, exercise is the key. The amount of exercise you do will affect how many calories your burn. Going for a twenty minute jog will burn more calories than a 45 minute walk, but that doesn’t mean walking is less effective as a calorie burning exercise because walking burns more calories than doing nothing.

One thing about exercising that most people don’t understand is its effect on metabolism. Someone who exercises regularly will have a higher resting metabolism then someone who is sedentary. This means that a fit person will burn more calories while at rest than an unfit person. Another benefit of exercising and getting in shape is that the increase in metabolism will allow the body to burn calories for several hours after an exercise session. If you burn 300 calories jogging for half-an-hour your body can burn an additional 150 calories over next few hours after your run. That’s a good 450 calories burned from a half hour of work all thanks to an increase in your body’s metabolism.
